S.T.O.P.P.E.D. Sheriff's Telling Our Parents and Promoting Educated Drivers
The primary objective is the Law Enforcement / Parent partnership as established by the Lamar County Sheriff's Office. The important aspect of STOPPED is the cooperation of the Lamar County Sheriff's Office, Barnesville Police Department, Milner Police Department, Gordon College Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol with the aspect of communication to the parents of the county's young drivers. This will be beginning a parental notification system to link parents with community law enforcement.
When parents enroll their child in the STOPPED program they will be issued an identification sticker, which is to be affixed to the back vehicle windshield of the vehicle used by their child. If that vehicle is stopped due to any traffic violation the parent will be contacted and given the information including the type of traffic infraction, who was operating the vehicle, location, time, number of occupants, and if a traffic citation was issued. Parents may then use this information at the home to help correct their child's driving habits.
Registration into the STOPPED program is free of charge. The child will remain registered under the program until the parent withdraws the vehicle from the program, or until the child turns 21. Once the parent wishes to remove the vehicle fromt he program the decal will simply be discarded and the decal number will be reassigned. Registration into the program is handled by School Resource Officer, Corporal Jeremy Roberts.
