Elder Watch Program

The Lamar County Sheriffs Office has established a service by which the Elderly and the Homebound citizens of Lamar County can be looked after and checked on.   Those who register for the program will be called at least once and sometimes twice weekly to verify their well being.  The calls will be made at random times and intervals.  There will be no set time or day when the call will be made.  The day or days that calls are made will be done so up to three [3] times at 15 to 30 minute intervals.  If there is no response after the third attempted call, a Sheriffs Patrol Deputy will be dispatched to the persons listed residence address to check on the individual.  Appropriate action as necessary will then be taken to render aid to the situation.

This service is available, at no cost, to all citizens of Lamar County who wish to be placed on the call list.  A person can be added to list by simply contacting the Sheriffs Office, at 121 Roberta Drive, by calling 770-358-5159, or by e-mail to dholmes@lamarcountysheriff.com.  Referrals can also be made on behalf of persons wanting or needing this service through civic or church groups.

The requirements are that the individuals be elderly, be homebound through medical necessity, or mobility impaired.  The persons should be living alone without live in caregivers.

The information required is:                   Name

                                                            Address

                                                            Home phone number

                                                            Age

                                                            Sex

                                                            Prevailing medical condition

If the individual is expected to be away from the listed address for a doctors appointment, visit, vacation, or what ever reason the Sheriffs Office should be notified as to the times and dates.  This is necessary so that when a person cannot be contacted a Sheriffs Patrol Deputy will not have to be dispatched.
