It is the mandate of the Georgia State Legislature that each Sheriff's Office within the state maintain an up to date record for the Sex Offender's residing in their respective counties. Residency includes those offenders who are currently incarcerated in the local county detention facilities.
The data collected, includes personal and demographic, residence and employment information. Information on non county residents who work or attend school in the county is also maintained.
It is the responsibility, under penalty of law, for each Registered Sex Offender to report annually within 72 hours prior to their respective birthdays to update the registration information. Additionally, Sex Offenders must report change of address, employment status, and contact information including telephone, motor vehicle, marital status, and school within 72 hours prior to any and all changes.
The Lamar County Sheriff's Office strictly maintains and adheres to all of its responsibilities under the law.
A list of every known Registered Sex Offender residing, working, or studying in Lamar County is posted and maintained on the Sheriff's Office website in accordance with Georgia Law. The posting includes the offenders' name, address, physical description, year of birth, county of offense, crime of conviction and photograph. The information is intended to inform the citizens of Lamar County of the presence of Registered Sex Offenders within the community.
The postings are updated within three (3) business days of any notification of change. The data is constantly changing, so it is possible that the posting may not reflect the latest information on each and every individual at any given time. Persons referring to the information should verify the information shown and advise the Lamar County Sheriff's Office of discrepancies or updates as soon as they are known.
Any person or persons using the information shown int he Lamar County Registered Sex Offender posting to threaten or harass any individual, registrant or registrants' family members and/or otherwise misuse this information may be subject to criminal prosecution or civil liability under the laws of the State of Georgia. Persons subject to inclusion on the Registered Sex Offender posting have either been convicted and released from prison, placed on probation, parole, or supervised release after July 1, 1996. Offenders convicted and registered in another state, who relocated to Georgia, are required to register in the county in which they reside in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia.
