Telephone

Housing areas have COLLECT CALL ONLY telephones available during the hours of 7am until midnight, 7 days a week.  The person being called must accept the charges for all calls.  Abuse of the telephones will result in the loss of the privilege, for an indefinite period of time.  Telephone time limit will be determined by the Jail Administrator, based upon the inmate population and the number of telephones available.  Telephone communications for inmates DOES NOT include the same degree of privacy as that of the general public, with the exception of communications with legal counsel, the courts, or other "privileged" individuals.  Therefore, personal telephone calls may be monitored by staff members, for information that may constitute a threat to the safety and security of the facility.  If you have problems accepting collect calls from an inmate at the Lamar County Detention Center please call Securus at 1-800-844-6591.

Mail

Mail correspondense of a general nature will be opened and inspected by staff members for contraband and randomly read for information that may constitute a threat to the safety or security of the facility.  An inmate will be notified of any censorship or seizure of mail correspondence citing specific reason(s) for such action.

Privileged mail correspondence with legal counsel, the courts, government agencies and elected officials will be sealed by the inmate (out-going) and opened only in the inmate's persence and inspected for contraband (incoming).  Privileged mail correspondence will not be read or censored by staff members.

Outgoing mail will be collected daily by staff members, and will be forwarded to the U.S. Postal Service within 24 hours of receipt from the inmate, unless: 1. Mail is deposited on the weekend, and/or a legal holiday 2. Mail is being held as evidence to substantiate any breach of Dentention Center security 3. Mail is being held because it contains contraband, plans to INTRODUCE contraband into the facility, plans for escape, threats of bodily harm to another, plans for riot or other disorder, and/or plans for the production of any explosive, incendiary or pyrotechnic device.

Supplies (paper, envelope, pen or pencil and postage) will be furnished to any inmate to communicate with legal counsel or the courts upon request.  Indigent supplies for non-privileged communication will be furnished as approved.

Incoming mail can be received care of the Lamar County Detention Center, 121 Roberta Drive, Barnesville, GA 30204.
