Barnesville – Lamar County Joins Cities Nationwide for
“AMERICA’S NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME”
On Tuesday August 4th, 2009 neighborhoods throughout Barnesville – Lamar County, Georgia were invited to join forces with over 15,000 communities nationwide for the “26th Annual National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, Barnesville Police Department, Milner Police Department and Gordon College Police Department. National Night Out is designed to: (1) heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) generate support for and participation in local anticrime efforts; (3) strengthen neighborhood sprit and police-community partnerships; and (4) send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. On August 4th 2009 residents in neighborhoods throughout Barnesville – Lamar County and across the nation were asked to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights and spend the evening with neighbors; emergency personnel gathered at the Ritz Park for a kick off event.
